H.M.S. Tourmaline was one of sixty-seven "S" class destroyers built for the Royal Navy as the Great War was ending.

Service

Tourmaline completed to full crew at Portsmouth, 18 December, 1919.[6]

On 17 January 1921, Tourmaline collided with Turquoise off Ryde Pier as the two departed Portland to join the Fourth Destroyer Flotilla for a three month cruise with the Atlantic Fleet. The two had to go to Portsmouth to await repairs.[7]

Tourmaline was re-commissioned at Portsmouth with reduced crew on 29 November, 1923. By March 1925, she was in service in the Mediterranean.[8]

She re-commissioned at Gibraltar for service as leader of the Gibraltar Local Defence Flotilla on 15 May, 1926.[9]

Re-commissioned at Gibraltar for continued service with the Gibraltar Local Defence Flotilla on 24 November, 1928.[10]
