H.M.S. Sabre was one of sixty-seven "S" class destroyers built for the Royal Navy as the Great War was ending.

Service

Sabre was reduced to Reserve at the Nore on 24 August, 1920.

She paid off into Maintenance Reserve on 30 March, 1928.

She was reduced to Reserve at Portsmouth on 5 May, 1931 but re-commissioned there on 22 July, 1931. By 1933, she seems idle, with just an engineer assigned to her.

In 1934, her bell was offered for sale to naval officers and others who might be interested, at the price of £5 or perhaps £1. Interested parties were to write the Director of Stores and were urged to include any special information which might convey the importance they attach to the bell, in light of the Admiralty's understanding that such items carry great sentimental value.

Reduced to Reserve on 12 September, 1936.

Nominally scrapped on 31 December 1936 in compliance with terms of the London Naval Treaty of 1930, Sabre was maintained in a demilitarized state and continued to serve in a variety of support roles, being commissioned at Portsmouth on 16 November 1937 for use as a target for torpedo-bombers.
