H.M.S. Sturdy was one of sixty-seven "S" class destroyers built for the Royal Navy as the Great War was ending.
Service
Sturdy was reduced to Reserve on 5 March, 1920.[6]
She was commissioned on 6 October, 1927.[7]
The ship commissioned at Rosyth on 11 March 1931 for service "in Irish Waters".[8]
She paid off on 22 June, 1932.[9]
Sturdy' was commissioned on 24 April, 1934 for service with the Home Fleet.[10]
In 1934, her bell was offered for sale to naval officers and others who might be interested, at the price of £5 or perhaps £1. Interested parties were to write the Director of Stores and were urged to include any special information which might convey the importance they attach to the bell, in light of the Admiralty's understanding that such items carry great sentimental value.[11]
The ship was re-commissioned in Reserve at Portsmouth on 5 December, 1936.[12]
