H.M.S. Searcher was one of sixty-seven "S" class destroyers built for the Royal Navy as the Great War was ending.

Service

Searcher reduced to Reserve Fleet at Devonport on 18 November, 1919.[6]

Searcher reduced to Reserve Fleet at Devonport on 14 August, 1920.[7]

Searcher was re-commissioned at Devonport on 6 October, 1927 and placed under command of Brownlow Villiers Layard for passage to Rosyth.[8][9]

Lieutenant Reginald James Somerset Butler was appointed to her on 13 April 1931, but not designated "in command". She was reduced to Reserve at Portsmouth on 5 May, 1931[10] where she remained until being re-commissioned there on 14 August.[11] By early 1933, she was at Gibraltar and under the command of Michael O. D. Ellwood who was also in command of the Gibraltar Local Defence Flotilla.[12]

Re-commissioned in Reserve at Standard Notice at Portsmouth on 5 December, 1936.[13]
