Admiral SIR Henry Tritton Buller, G.C.V.O., C.B., Royal Navy (30 October, 1873 – 29 August, 1960) was an officer in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Buller was the eldest son of Admiral Sir Alexander Buller.[1] His younger brother, Francis Alexander Waddilove Buller, would also become a distinguished Royal Navy officer.

Buller was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 30 June, 1895.[2]

He was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 August, 1904.[3]

He was promoted to the rank of Captain on 22 June, 1911.[4]

Buller was appointed in command of Zealandia on 17 November 1911 and remained in her until 17 May of the following year.[5]

Great War

On 1 July 1913, he was appointed in command of the second class protected cruiser Highflyer and remained in her until 13 May, 1916.[6]

He left the Admiralty in April, 1918, and was appointed in command of the battleship Barham, as Flag Captain to Vice-Admiral Sir Hugh Evan-Thomas, Vice-Admiral Commanding the Fifth Battle Squadron. He was appointed in command of the Valiant on 1 October upon Evan-Thomas being superseded by Acting Vice-Admiral Arthur C. Leveson.[7]

Post-War

On 14 May, 1919, Buller took command of the battleship Malaya, which he held for the customary two years. On 17 May, 1921, he was appointed Chief of Staff to Sir Herbert Heath, now Commander-in-Chief, Coast of Scotland.[8]
