Frederick Dundas Gilpin-Brown

Admiral (retired) Frederick Dundas Gilpin-Brown, C.B.E., R.N. (12 April, 1866 – 9 February, 1934) was an officer of the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

At the examinations for naval cadetships in mid 1879, Gilpin-Brown placed thirtieth out of thirty-seven successful candidates.[1]

Gilpin-Brown was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 1 April, 1889.

Gilpin-Brown was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1901.

Gilpin-Brown was promoted to the rank of Captain on 18 September, 1907.

He was appointed to command the battleship Jupiter on 17 November, 1909.[2]

He was appointed to command the battleship New Zealand (later renamed Zealandia) on 24 July, 1911.[3]

He was appointed to command the armoured cruiser Black Prince on 10 April, 1913.[4]

Gilpin-Brown was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 2 January, 1919.[5]

He was promoted to the rank of Vice-Admiral on the Retired List on 31 July, 1924,[6] and advanced to Admiral on the Retired List on 22 February, 1928.[7]
