Vice-Admiral SIR Edmund Radcliffe Pears, K.B.E.C.B., R.N. (25 April, 1862 – 21 June, 1941) was an officer of the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Pears was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 30 June, 1885.[1]

For his services in Benin, Pears was specially promoted to the rank of Commander on 25 May, 1897.[2]

Pears was promoted to the rank of Captain on 31 December, 1903.[3]

He assumed command of the first class protected cruiser Diadem in January 1905, but only for a single month.

In June 1906, he assumed command of the second class protected cruiser Arrogant.

He was appointed command of the battleship Triumph on 12 November, 1907.[4]

He was appointed as Captain of the battleship Agamemnon on 5 April, 1910.[5]

On 21 December, 1911, Pears was appointed Inspecting Captain of Boys' Training Ships.[6] On 5 April, 1913, he was appointed to Impregnable as Commodore, Second Class "in Charge of Boys' Training Service."[7] In the naval manœuvres of that year, he was given command of the Tenth Cruiser Squadron.[8]

Pears was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 10 February, 1914, vice Bradford.[9]

Great War

Pears was appointed to fly his flag at Invergordon on 13 August, 1914.[10]

He was appointed an Ordinary Member of the Third Class, or Companion, of the Civil Division of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath (C.B.) on 1 January, 1917.[11]

Post-War

Pears was appointed a Knight Commander in the Military Division of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (K.B.E.) on 1 January, 1919.[12] He was promoted to the rank of Vice-Admiral on 9 January vice Troubridge.[13] He was placed on the Retired List at his own request on 24 January, 1920,[14] and was promoted to the rank of Admiral on the Retired List on 3 March, 1924.[15]
