Commander (retired) Alan Duncan Leslie Macpherson, D.S.C. (7 December, 1894 – ) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

The son of barrister at law Alan Macpherson, Esq..

His first appointment was a lengthy one to the battleship H.M.S. St. Vincent of te First Battle Squadron, lasting from 1912 to 17 March 1915. At the end of April, he was sent to the battleship Ajax, in which he fought at the Battle of Jutland.

Macpherson was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 September, 1916.

On 8 November 1916 he was sent to Dolphin for submarine service. Macpherson served in C 19 for four months in early 1917, then five months in E 55 and finally six and half months in H 4, after which he was assigned for general submarine service out of Adamant and then Dolphin.
