U.S.S. William Jones was one of one hundred and fifty-six Clemson Class destroyers completed for the U.S. Navy.
Service
The ship was commissioned at the Mare Island Navy Yard on 30 September, 1920. Lieutenant Commander Charles E. Rosendahl was placed in temporary command, but was superseded by Lieutenant Commander James G. B. Gromer on 16 November.
