Admiral William Frederick Stanley Mann, Royal Navy, Retired (21 June, 1846 – 23 April, 1924) was an officer of the Royal Navy.

Early Life & Career

Mann was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 6 July, 1867.[1]

In 1871, there was a Court Martial regarding A.B. Wilson of Prince Consort. The charge and findings are illegible in Mann's Service Record.[2]

Following the Prince of Wales's tour of India, Mann was promoted to the rank of Commander on 15 May, 1876.[3]

Mann was promoted to the rank of Captain on 30 June, 1885,[4] and was immediately placed in command of the second class battleship Anson from July 1895 until October 1897. Something exciting happened during this appointment, as on 14 May 1896, Mann was informed that he was "guilty of an error in judgement in firing a torpedo from the Anson in the direction of a Foreign Vessel of War." Ticklish![5]

He was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 6 July, 1899, vice Carr.[6]

Mann was advanced to the rank of Vice-Admiral on the Retired List on 16 June, 1904.[7]
