Captain (retired) Lawrence Frederick Nelson Ommanney, R.N. (4 February, 1891 – ) was an officer in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

The son of a Royal Navy Captain.

Ommanney was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 August, 1913.[1]

Ommanney was appointed to the battlecruiser Queen Mary on 13 October, 1913. He was fortunate to be appointed to the Acheron Class destroyer Oak on 8 July, 1915, as this spared him dying when Queen Mary was blown up at the Battle of Jutland.

On 4 October, 1916, he was appointed in command of the destroyer Itchen.

Ommanney was Lieutenant in Command of the destroyer Christopher on 16 August, 1917.[2]

Post-War

Ommanney was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 August, 1921.

Ommanney was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1926.

World War II

Ommanney was placed on the Retired List with the rank of Captain on 4 February, 1941.

He reverted to the Retired List on 16 September, 1946.
