H.M.S. Walpole was one of twenty-one "W" class destroyers completed for the Royal Navy in 1917-18.

Service

Walpole commissioned on 11 July, 1918.[8]

She was re-commissioned at Port Edgar on 27 September, 1923 to serve with the Sixth Destroyer Flotilla as part of the Atlantic Fleet.[9]

She re-commissioned at the Nore on 21 May, 1926 and returned to duty with Sixth Destroyer Flotilla.[10]

She was re-commissioned at Chatham on 1 January 1929 to serve with the Sixth Destroyer Flotilla as part of the Atlantic Fleet.[11]

Walpole was re-commissioned at Chatham on 24 April, 1931 to continue to operations with the Sixth Destroyer Flotilla as part of the Atlantic Fleet.[12] She remained with them until at least mid-1934, after that formation became attached to the Home Fleet, and re-commissioned at Chatham on 4 May, 1933.[13]

Re-commissioned at Chatham with reserve complement on 7 June, 1935.[14]

She was reduced to Special Complement on 2 June, 1936 at assigned to the First Anti-Submarine Flotilla out of Portland.[15]
