Captain George Cunningham Paton Menzies, D.S.O. (30 January, 1900 – ) served in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
The son of Dr. W. F. Menzies, a physician passed out of the Training Establishment on 1 January 1916 and was appointed to the battleship Collingwood. He fought in her at the Battle of Jutland and left only on 7 November 1918 when he was sent to Dolphin for instruction in submarines, and in February 1919 to Lucia for service in submarines.[1]
Menzies was appointed to R 2 on 8 May, 1919 and was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 October, 1919.[2]
He would serve in H 48 and L 56 before being appointed to L 33 as third officer in January, 1922.[3]
On 19 January, 1925 Menzies was appointed in command of Group "F" Submarines in Reserve at Portland: H 26, H 33 and H 43.[4]
Menzies was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 October, 1927.[5]
Menzies was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1933.[6]
Menzies was promoted to the rank of Captain on 31 December, 1938.[7]
World War II
Retired 8 January, 1948.[8]
