Commander Arthur Townsend Johnstone, R.N. (8 October, 1882 – 31 May, 1916) was an officer in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

The son of a stockbroker.

Johnstone was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 8 October, 1903.

Johnstone was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 8 October, 1911.

Johnstone was appointed to the armoured cruiser H.M.S. Defence as gunnery officer on 5 April, 1913.

Johnstone was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1915.

Johnstone had been appointed, in May 1916, to be gunnery officer in the battleship Resolution when she completed, but as she was still under construction he died at the Battle of Jutland aboard Defence.
