Rear-Admiral Claude Congreve Dobson, D.S.O., V.C., (1 January, 1885 – 26 June, 1946) was an officer in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Dobson was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 30 March, 1906, and appointed to Monarch on 27 March, 1912.[1]

Dobson was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 30 March, 1914.[2]

Dobson was appointed in command of the submarine C 27 on 7 April, 1914.[3] On 20 July, 1915, C 27 sank U 23 off Fair Island.[4][5]

Dobson was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1918.[6] He then started to work with small torpedo craft, and was awarded the Victoria Cross in recognition that on 18 August, 1919 his C.M.B. 31BD scored two torpedo hits on a Russian battleship in Kronstadt harbour.

On the strength of this success, Dobson was appointed to Osea for command of a C.M.B. flotilla on 18 December, 1919.[7]

Dobson was promoted to the rank of Captain on 31 December, 1925.[8]

Dobson was appointed in command of the light cruiser Colombo in October, 1927.

In October, 1931, he was appointed in command of the light cruiser Cambrian.

Dobson was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 19 July, 1936.[9]
