H.M.S. Oriana was one of one hundred and three destroyers of the "M" class built for the Royal Navy during the Great War.

Service

Oriana joined the Thirteenth Destroyer Flotilla upon completion, joining some time in October, 1916. This flotilla was comprised solely of fast new destroyers and screened the Battle Cruiser Force.

On 17 November, 1917, Oriana was present at the Second Battle of Heligoland Bight under the command of her only wartime commander, Lieutenant Commander Henry Scott, but she and the Battle Cruiser Force did not get engaged in the action.

In April, 1918, she and Rival left the 13 D.F. to join the Fourth Destroyer Flotilla, which was augmenting the defensive forces operating out of Devonport. In October, she was one of six destroyers loaned to the Third Destroyer Flotilla for about a month. She returned to the Fourth to ride out the end of the war. In December, the formation was disbanded and its constituents sent to various home ports. Oriana was one of nine destroyers sent to Portsmouth.

Oriana was reduced to a C. & M. Party at Portsmouth on 17 October, 1919.[6]
