Commander (retired) Robert Neville Stopford, R.N. (4 July, 1888 – 3 November, 1949) was an officer in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Born in Somerset, the son of Rear-Admiral Robert Wilbraham Stopford.[1]

Stopford was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 1 October, 1910.[2]

Stopford was appointed in command of the submarine A 8 in October, 1913.[3]

Stopford was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 1 October, 1918.[4]

On 23 June, 1919, Stopford was appointed in command of the submarine L 15.[5]

Stopford was placed on the Retired List at his own request at the rank of Commander on 1 October, 1929.[6]

World War II

He served as R.T.O., Scotland from March 1940 through being reverted to the Retired List on 10 February, 1946.
