Captain (retired) Robert Amcotts Wilson, D.S.O., R.N. (25 June, 1882 – ) served in the Royal Navy. His middle name may be Amcott.

Life & Career

Wilson passed out of Britannia in December, 1897 with the lowest score of the sixty-four cadets who passed out, with 989 marks.[1]

Wilson was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 31 December, 1903.[2]

After being superseded in command of the destroyer Sheldrake, Wilson was appointed for training in "Airship Work" in March 1913. In June he was assigned to Airship No. 4 as Flying Officer. On 1 October 1913 he was made a Flight Commander.[3]

Great War

Wilson was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1915.[4]

Wilson was awarded a D.S.O. for his services in connection with the destruction of the German light cruiser Königsberg on 6 and 11 July, 1915.

Wilson was investigated by a Court of Enquiry on 4 November, 1916 probing deficiencies in stores of H.M.S. Mersey. He was found remiss in not resolving the matter earlier, and that his employment of a G. Goodman, R.N.R., as captain's clerk contributed to a breach of King's Regulations.[5]

Wilson was placed on the Retired List at his own request on 23 September, 1920.[6]

Wilson was promoted to the rank of Captain on 25 June, 1924.[7]

World War II

Wilson was appointed in command of the yacht Lady Shahrazad from 9 September 1939 to 1 October, 1939.

Wilson was appointed in command of the armed yacht Coila from 2 October, 1939 to 20 October, 1940.

He reverted to the Retired List on 1 May 1945.[8]
