Vice-Admiral Reginald Charles Prothero, C.B., M.V.O., Royal Navy, Retired (15 June, 1849 – 26 May, 1927) was an officer of the Royal Navy.

Early Life & Career

Prothero was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 8 August, 1874.[1]

Prothero was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1889.[2]

On 7 January, 1890, Prothero was appointed to the Edinburgh.[3] On 11 June, 1891, he was appointed to the Neptune,[4] and then to the Nile on 30 June.[5]

Captain

Prothero was promoted to the rank of Captain on 1 January, 1895.[6]

He was appointed in command of the battleship Revenge in December 1896.

He was appointed to command the second class protected cruiser Doris on 27 April, 1898.[7]

On 6 November, 1900, for his services in South Africa, Prothero was appointed an Ordinary Member of the Third Class, or Companion, in the Military Division of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath (C.B.).[8]

He served as captain of Implacable from October 1902 through May 1904.

On the occasion of the King's visit to Malta Prothero was appointed a Member of the Fourth Class of the Royal Victorian Order (M.V.O.) on 27 April, 1903.[9]

Prothero was placed on the Retired List on account of age and in accordance with the provisions of Order in Council of 22 February, 1870 on 15 June, 1904.[10][11] On 20 February, 1906, he was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on the Retired List,[12] and to Vice-Admiral on 22 July, 1910.[13]
