Captain (retired) Philip Henry Trimmer, D.S.O., R.N. (25 August, 1878 – ) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Trimmer was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 31 December, 1900.[1]

Trimmer was faulted in the loss of confidential documents in 1908, eliciting severe displeasure from the Admiralty. Nonetheless, he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 31 December, 1908.[2]

In December 1910, he was blamed for providing inadequate supervision in a fatal coaling accident in Hibernia.[3]

Trimmer was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1914. He was appointed to H.M.S. Excellent on that date, and participated in gunnery tests. On 30 July, he was appointed in command of the second class protected cruiser H.M.S. Talbot. On 14 September, 1915 he was superseded in command, but remained in the ship as gunnery officer until 9 December, 1916. He was faulted for the loss of gun sighting telescopes at some point in his time in Talbot and had to personally pay for their replacement.[4]

Trimmer commanded the yacht Warrior from 20 September, 1918 to January, 1919 as Flag Commander to Admiral Sir William Grant. The ship travelled to Washington, D.C..[5]

Trimmer was placed on the Retired List at his own request at the rank of Captain on 13 November, 1924.[6]
