Lieutenant-Commander Nelson Wheelwright (19 November, 1881 – 27 August, 1922) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Born in Rippenden, Yorkshire.

The son of John H. Wheelwright, cotton spinner, received right months' time on passing out of Britannia.

Wheelwright was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 31 December, 1902. This seniority would be altered to 31 December 1903 by a Court Martial of 10 June, 1908 which found that he had negligently performed his duty in updating charts in Edinburgh.

Wheelwright was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 31 December, 1911.

On 25 September 1916 he arrived back in England and was diagnosed at Plymouth Hospital with syphilis Type I. He was found fit on 28 October.

His final evaluation from Captain Oldham, from January 1919 reads, "an unpleasant type of officer."

Placed on Retired List for non-service on 27 May, 1922, Wheelwright died later that year of coronary ailments.
