Commander (retired) John Leonard Cather, R.N. (16 November, 1880 – ) was an officer in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Cather's father was a solicitor at School House, Henley on Thames.

Cather was the winner of 1901's Beaufort Testimonial.

Cather was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 January, 1902.

Cather was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 January, 1910. He was placed on the Retired List at his own request on 18 October, 1910.

He survived the sinking of the battleship Goliath in May, 1915.

Cather was promoted to the rank of Commander dated 11 November, 1918 in recognition of services rendered during the war.

He resigned from the Retired List as unfit on 23 December, 1936.
