Sixty-two candidates were selected for naval cadetships in the January, 1895 intake term of H.M.S. Britannia after competitive examinations held on 4 December 1894 and successive days produced the following results.[1]

The prior education noted for some of the men is obtained from classified ads in various issues of the Hampshire Telegraph and Naval Chronicle, e.g. 22 Jun 1895, p. 4 and 26 Jun 1897 p. 1.

The Service Records of Ralph Eliot, Herbert Noel Stewart and Richard Anthony Aston Plowden (Eastman's Academy) (ranked 65th with 1205 marks) seem to clearly indicate that they, too, were in this term.

Additionally, Bertram Aldworth[?] Tivy earned a Colonial Cadetship and Edward George Fane (Eastman's Academy) a Service Cadetship.

From September 1903 entries were also made to the Royal Naval College, Osborne under the Selborne Scheme. The Britannia was closed in July 1905 after the May entry, which was sent to Bermuda with the January entry. The following two terms under the old scheme were sent straight to the Royal Naval College, Dartmouth.
