Paymaster Rear-Admiral SIR John Henry George Chapple, K.C.B., C.V.O., Royal Navy (4 December, 1859 – 5 March, 1925) was an officer of the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Chapple was educated at the Royal Naval School, New Cross.[1]

On the occasion of King George V's coronation he was appointed an Additional Member of the Third Class, or Companion, in the Military Division of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath (C.B.) on 19 June, 1911.[2]

He was appointed an Additional Member of the Second Class, or Knight Commander, in the Civil Division of the Order of the Bath (K.C.B.) on 1 January, 1918.[3]

Chapple was appointed to the new position of Paymaster Director-General on 6 March, 1918. It has been suggested that he was appointed on 19 February.[4] He retired and was replaced by William M. C. B. Whyte on 8 July. By Order in Council of 20 December, 1919, the position of Paymaster Director-General was retroactively given the rank of Paymaster Rear-Admiral.[5]
