Commander (retired) James Sandbach Parker, D.S.O., R.N. (16 June, 1877 – 28 August, 1946) served in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Parker was born in Waihao, Waimate in New Zealand.[1]
Parker was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 31 October, 1899.[2]
On 9 July, 1906, Captain Nugent of the second class protected cruiser Gladiator, in which Parker was serving as gunnery officer, reported that Parker was "unfit to perform duties of Lieut owing to want of knowledge & to physical infirmities". Parker was evaluated and found to suffer from bronchitis. Worse, he was subjected to quarterly reports. Nugent did not warm up to him much, reporting in November that he was "only able to give a slightly more favourable opinion of this officer's ability."[3]
Parker was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 31 October, 1907.[4]
Parker was placed on the Retired List at his own request at the rank of Commander on 20 December, 1920.[5]
