He was appointed in command of the flotilla leader Spenser on 1 October, 1919.[7]

He commanded Queen Elizabeth from March 1926, seeing her start a refit that year.

Soon thereafter, he took over Valiant, remaining with her until March 1927.

He was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 22 February, 1928, vice Bax.[8] On the occasion of the King's birthday he was appointed an Ordinary Member of the Third Class, or Companion, in the Military Division of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath (C.B.) on 4 June.[9]
