Commander (retired) Henry Courtenay Carlyon-Britton, (21 January, 1891 – 15 April, 1932) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

The son of Captain J. W. S.[?] Carlyon-Britton, D.R., J.P. was born in Enfield.[1]

Carlyon-Britton was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 31 December, 1912.[2]

On 25 August, 1916 the propeller of a torpedo in B 4 was damaged, and Carlyon-Britton was told to be more careful in future.[3]

On 30 June, 1918 at 3.23pm while in command of E 21, he attacked and sank an enemy steamer.[4]

Suffering from neurasthenia, Carlyon-Britton was placed on the Retired List as medically unfit on 29 September, 1919 and promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 31 December, 1920.[5]

Carlyon-Britton was promoted to the rank of Commander on 21 January, 1931.[6]

He died at New Plymouth Hospital in New Zealand in April 1932.[7]
