H.M.S. York was one of two York Class cruisers completed for the Royal Navy.

Commissioned at Chatham on 6 May, 1930.[8]

She once again commissioned at Chatham on 19 APril, 1932 for service with the Second Cruiser Squadron of the Home Fleet.[9]
