H.M.S. Wolf (1897)
Pendant Number: D.98 (1914)
D.95 (Sep 1915)
D.97 (Jan 1918)[1]
Builder: Laird[2]
Ordered: 1895-96 Programme[3]
Laid down: 12 Nov, 1896[4]
Launched: 2 Jun, 1897[5]
Commissioned: Jul, 1898[6]
Broken up: 1921[7]

H.M.S. Wolf was one of twenty-four "B" class destroyers built for the Royal Navy — a "30 knotter".

Service

In late 1905, she was one of eight destroyers in the Second Division of the Channel Fleet's Destroyer Flotilla.[8]

On 6 December, 1905, Wolf collided with Blackwater while the two approached a mooring. Their speed was judged too high for the manoeuvre, and Wolf's Lt. Waterer was deemed "unfit for the command of a T.B.." He was removed from command on 29 December in favour of an appointment as gunnery officer in the second class protected cruiser Sirius.[9]

He was replaced by Lt. Mark Goodwin Newton, who commanded the destroyer until Jult, 1906.

In mid-1913, Wolf was active with the Seventh Destroyer Flotilla — a patrol flotilla.[10]

Captains

Dates of appointment are provided when known.
