H.M.S. Mosquito was one of nine Ariel Class composite gunboats completed for the Royal Navy.

Service

Re-commissioned at Hong Kong on 25 January, 1879.[3]

In 1886, she was in Devonport as part of the Fourth Class Reserve.[4]

By November, 1886, she was identified as one of forty-one vessels of various types the Navy had decided to dispose of due to their lack of practical value in the event of war. She was to be sold for £13,800.[5]
