H.M.S. Leven was one of forty "C" class destroyers built for the Royal Navy — a "30 knotter".

Service

In February, 1904 she collided with a lighter through what was determined to be an error in judgement on the part of Lieutenant-in-Command Michael Henley Wilding. A second collision, with the Torpoint Ferry Bridge in May 1905 was also deemed Wilding's fault, this time through what Lord Walter Kerr called a "gross error" in judgement. This second one is curious, as Wilding should no longer have been in command at that date.[8]

She and ten other T.B.Ds. of the Devonport Reserve followed the scout cruiser H.M.S. Skirmisher from Plymouth on 21 August 1905 for a practice cruise along the Devon and Cornish coasts.[9]

In mid-1913, she was active with Sixth Destroyer Flotilla, a patrol flotilla.[10]

On 26 January, 1918 Leven under the command of Arthur Percy Melsom depth-charged and sank UB 35 off Calais.[11]

Near the end of 1918, she collided with the trawler Sabreur, eliciting a caution for Lieutenant R.N.R. in Command Thomas Victor Roberts.[12]
