H.M.S. Bruce (1918)
Pendant Number: F.48 (Jun 1918)[1]
Builder: Cammell Laird[2]
Ordered: Dec, 1916[3]
Launched: 26 Feb, 1918[4]
Sunk: 22 Nov, 1939[5]
Fate: as target

H.M.S. Bruce was one of eight flotilla leaders of the Scott class.

Service

She completed to full crew at Rosyth on 27 November, 1919.[6]

Bruce reduced to 2/5 Complement on 8 October, 1924.[7]

Re-commissioned at the Nore on 7 January, 1927 for service with the Eighth Destroyer Flotilla on the China Station.[8]

Re-commissioned at Hong Kong on 1 October 1929 for service in Eighth Destroyer Flotilla,[9] switching to support of a submarine flotilla by early 1933.[10]

She was reduced to Reserve at Chatham on 21 April, 1937.[11]

In 1938, her bell was among a number of ships' bells the Royal Navy offered for sale to officers and others interested. It commanded a price of between £3-£10 plus packing and shipping. Interested parties were to apply to win one at its stated price, stating any special attachment or claim they had to the item(s) applied for.[12]

Captains

Dates of appointment are provided when known.

MacLeod's stint in command seems a poor fit.
