Commander (retired) Francis Thomas Hewson, R.N. (1 February, 1888 – ) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Born Marylebone, the son of G Hewson, Esq., J.P..

Hewson was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 31 December, 1909.

At the outset of the war, Hewson was still found to be suffering from neurasthenia that he had first been diagnosed with in November, 1913. He was kept busy with torpedo courses and work at Vernon before being appointed as torpedo officer in Argyll on 15 October, 1915, but the ship was immediately lost. He returned to similar shore duties at Vernon as before until the end of the war, being promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 31 December, 1917.

Post-War

Hewson was placed on the Retired List as medically unfit on 29 May, 1919.

Hewson was promoted to the rank of Commander on 1 February, 1928.
