Rear-Admiral (retired) Edward Gerald Hyslop Bellars, C.B. (10 July, 1894 – 4 October, 1955) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

The son of a (the?) Vicar of Margate, who was deceased by the time Edward joined the Training Establishment on 15 May, 1907. He passed out on 15 January, 1912 and was appointed to the pre-dreadnought battleship Britannia, in which he served until 13 September 1914 when he was to join the battleship Albemarle. Of 7 April, 1915 he commenced duty with the Royal Naval Air Service.[1]

Bellars was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant at an adjusted date of 15 December, 1915.[2]

Bellars was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 December, 1923. He was appointed to Nelson as gunnery officer on 1 March, 1926.[3]

Bellars was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1928.[4]

Bellars served as Fleet Gunnery Officer aboard H.M.S. Nelson from 16 July, 1932 until being superseded by George Devereux Belben, dated 15 November, 1933.[5][6]

Bellars was promoted to the rank of Captain on 30 June, 1935.[7]

World War II

In 1943-44, he was hospitalised.

Bellars was placed on the Retired List on 2 January, 1945 and was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 1 March, 1946.[8]
