Commander SIR Charles Rodney Blane, Fourth Baronet, Royal Navy (28 October, 1879 – 31 May, 1916) was an officer of the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Born in Neston, Cheshire. Charles was the Fourth and last Blane Baronet, succeeding to that title 5 July, 1911. His father, Arthur Rodney Blane (1834 – 1891) also served in the Royal Navy.

Blane was was promoted to Lieutenant on 15 March, 1900. In 1905 he supplied reports on French gun mountings.[1]

Blane was was promoted to Lieutenant-Commander on 15 March, 1908.[Inference]

Blane was was promoted to Commander on 30 June, 1912.[2][3]

Blane served in Barham and Marlborough in 1915 and early 1916, but he was appointed as Commander in H.M.S. Queen Mary on 15 March, 1916 and was killed when that ship sank at the Battle of Jutland.[4]

His widow, Lady Amy Henrietta Blane, O.B.E., later became lady-in-waiting to Princess Helena Victoria and later to Princess Marie Louise.[5] She died "suddenly" at The London Clinic on 7 January, 1970.[6] Her funeral service was held at 1430 at St. Luke's Church, Chelsea on Monday, 12 January, officiated at by the Reverend E.M. Loasby.[7]
