Vice-Admiral SIR Alfred Englefield Evans, C.B., K.B.E., Royal Navy (31 January, 1884 – 29 December, 1944) was an officer in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Born in Cape Colony, Evans was raised by his uncle, A. H. Evans, Esquire.[1]
Evans was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 30 September, 1905.[2]
Evans was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 30 September, 1913.[3]
Evans was appointed in command of the first-class torpedo boat T.B. 16 on 10 March, 1914.[4] It was transferred to the Seventh Destroyer Flotilla, operating out of Devonport, and its twelve T.Bs. were in a reduced state, seemingly under Evans's sole oversight.[5]
Evans was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1917.[6]
On 4 December, 1917, Evans was appointed in command of the destroyer Michael.[7]
Post-War
Evans was promoted to the rank of Captain on 30 June, 1924.[8]
In January, 1927, he was appointed in command of the light cruiser Birmingham.
Evans was appointed in command of the light cruiser Calcutta in September, 1928.
Evans was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 4 October, 1935.[9]
Evans was promoted to the rank of Vice-Admiral on 29 June, 1939.[10]
