Admiral of the Fleet SIR Alfred Dudley Pickman Rogers Pound, G.C.B., O.M., G.C.V.O., Royal Navy (29 August, 1877 – 21 October, 1943) was an officer of the Royal Navy.

Early Life & Career

On 16 October, 1897, Pound was confirmed in the rank of Sub-Lieutenant, dated 29 August, 1896.[1]

On 29 August, 1898, Pound was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant.[2]

Pound was appointed to President, additional, as an Assistant to D.N.O.[3]

He was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1909.[4]

Captain

He was appointed command of Colossus on 24 October, 1915.[5]

On the occasion of the King's birthday he was appointed an Additional Member of the Third Class, or Companion, in the Military Division of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath (C.B.) on 3 June, 1919.[6]

Pound was appointed a Naval Aide-de-Camp to King George V on 1 January, 1925, vice Parker.[7]

Flag Rank

Pound was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 1 March, 1926.[8]

He was promoted to the rank of Vice-Admiral on 15 May, 1930, vice Fuller.[9]

Pound was promoted to the rank of Admiral on 16 January, 1935, vice Preston.[10]

First Sea Lord

Pound was promoted to the rank of Admiral of the Fleet on 31 July, 1939, vice Tyrwhitt.[11]

On 1 October, 1941, Pound was appointed First and Principal Naval Aide-de-Camp to King George VI, vice Drax.[12]

Mrs. Sheila de Molyns, the daughter of Pound's former admiral in Colossus, acidly noted of his death: "It probably suited Churchill."[13]
