H.M.S. Rattler was one of four Bramble class gunboats completed for the Royal Navy.

Service

In 1891, she was slated to soon be paid off and re-commissioned at Hong Kong, with Lieutenant John George Heugh being re-appointed in command.[4]

Rattler arrived at Gibraltar from the West Coast of Africa in mid-August, 1903. She was expected to leave on 17 August for Plymouth to pay off.[5] On 20 September 1903, she paid off at Chatham into the D Division of the Dockyard Reserve.[6]

In June 1906, though lying at Chatham Dockyard, she was listed for sale at a July 10th Portsmouth auction of "Obsolete War Vessels and Other Craft" as "Lot 9".[7]

In April 1910, she arrived at Portsmouth from the Clyde to begin service in training stokers, attached to Argonaut.[8] She kept at this work until at least 1913.[9]
