H.M.S. Cossack was one of twelve destroyers of the "Tribal" class.

Service

In 1909, she became one of forty-three destroyers so far fitted with Destroyer Sets.[7]

On 25 October, 1909, work to add two additional 12-pdr 12 c.w.t. guns amidships was completed. She left the Sheerness Dockyard, and on the 27th left to Harwich to resume duties with the broad pennant of Commodore (T).[8]

By 1912-13, her five 12-pdr P. I mountings bore register numbers 169, 170, 200, 201 and 202 and were fitted with "Training Gear".[9]

In mid-1913, she was serving in the Fourth Destroyer Flotilla.[10]

On 20 April, 1916, Commander Percy John Helyar was reprimanded after a Court Martial for stranding Cossack. It was not before leaving command in February, 1917 that Helyar received an evaluation that read, "now considered an able & reliable offr. & accident mentioned due to tempry aberation."

By May 1919, Cossack was among 33 obsolete ships awaiting sale.[11]

Captains

Dates of appointment are provided when known.

The conflict between Harrison and Magee should be explored.
