Admiral Claude Edward Buckle, Royal Navy (7 February, 1839 – 7 February, 1930) was an officer of the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Buckle was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 26 June, 1859.

Buckle was severely wounded while serving in H.M.S. Calcutta in 1859.

Buckle was promoted to the rank of Commander on 18 June, 1866.<ref>The London Gazette: no. 23128. p. 3539. 19 June, 1866.</ref>

Buckle was promoted to the rank of Captain with seniority of 22 January, 1877.<ref>The London Gazette: no. 24413. p. 502. 2 February, 1877.</ref>

In July 1879, Buckle was awarded the Royal Humane Society Bronze Medal.

An undated note from a Commodore Chapman indicates, "Very cantankerous & very unsuited to be a 1st Lieut. No Sailor."

Buckle was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 1 January, 1892.<ref>The London Gazette: no. 26241. p. 67. 5 January, 1892.</ref>

He was promoted to the rank of Vice-Admiral on 11 December, 1897, vice Buller.<ref>The London Gazette: no. 26919. p. 7479. 14 December, 1897.</ref>

He was promoted to the rank of Admiral on 6 August, 1903.<ref>The London Gazette: no. 27584. p. 4985. 7 August, 1903.</ref> In accordance with the provisions of the Order in Council of 22 February, 1870, he was placed on the Retired List dated 12 August, at his own request.<ref>The London Gazette: no. 27589. p. 5223. 18 August, 1903.</ref>
