U.S.S. Snapper was one of five Octopus (or "C") class submarines completed for the U.S. Navy.

Service

Snapper was commissioned on 2 February, 1910 under the command of Lieutenant Chester W. Nimitz.

On 17 November, 1911, Snapper was redesignated C-5.

In 1916, all five "C" class boats were stationed in the Panama Canal Zone, their crews living aboard U.S.S. Severn, assisted by the tug Potomac.[3]
