Service
During trials in the North Sea at the end of 1895, Lightning reached 27.9 knots under forced draught—nine-tenths of a knot over the specified contract speed.[8]
In mid-1913, she was at The Nore.[9]
She was mined in the North Sea with the loss of fifteen lives, primarily engine room personnel.[10]
