H.M. T.B. 83 was one of six first-class torpedo boats of the T.B. 82 class.
Service
She commissioned on 18 July to participate in the Annual Manoeuvres of 1894 as one of three T.Bs. of the Queenstown Division of the Blue Side.[5]
In 1895, she was one of twenty-three torpedo boats of at least 125 feet in length stationed in Portsmouth along with four smaller ones.[6] Her participation in the Annual Manoeuvres of 1895 was curtailed when she ran aground when venturing in from Plymouth to take on water and coal on the afternoon of 28 July. She was floated free with the tide and taken into drydock where it was ascertained that her prop and perhaps shaft had been bent.[7]
She was commissioned on 8 July 1896 in order to participate in the Annual Manoeuvres of 1896, but I have been unable to find who was her captain.[8][9][10]
One source indicates that she was sold to Brand on 12 October, 1919,[11] but according the the Navy List in January, 1921, she was at the Nore under a C. & M. party, temporarily working with the Nore Local Defence Flotilla.[12]
