H.M.S. Sirius was one of 21 Apollo class second-class cruisers completed in the early to mid 1890s.
Service
She was commissioned on 8 July 1896 in order to participate in the Annual Manoeuvres of 1896 under the command of Captain Robert . J. Montgomerie.[7][8][9]
Sirius recommissioned at Devonport on 1 February, 1912. In mid-1913, she was operating in the West Atlantic.[10]
She recommissioned on 27 January, 1914.[11]
In April, 1914, she was to proceed from Devonport to Gibraltar with relief crews to carry further onward to New Zealand. However, this plan was cancelled and she was left behind.[12][13]
