Leslie Creery Stuart
Rear-Admiral Leslie Creery Stuart, C.M.G., M.V.O., Royal Navy (18 October, 1851 – 1 November, 1908) was an officer of the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Stuart was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 October, 1875.[1]
Stuart was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1889.[2]
Stuart was promoted to the rank of Captain on 30 June, 1895, aged forty-three years, eight months, and twelve days.[3]
For his services in Samoa, on 1 January, 1900 Stuart was appointed a Companion of the Most Distinguished Order of St. Michael and St. George (C.M.G.).[4]
On the occasion of the King's visit to Malta Stuart was appointed a Member of the Fourth Class of the Royal Victorian Order (M.V.O.) on 27 April, 1903.[5]
In April 1902, he commissioned and served as captain of the battleship Vengeance until 4 April, 1905 when he undertook a month-long stint as captain of Barfleur.[6]
In July of 1903, Admiral Domvile, C-in-C Mediterranean, noted that Stuart was "[r]ather too elderly for a Battleship on this Station."[7]
Stuart was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral dated 1 April, 1906.[8] In accordance with the provisions of the Order in Council of 8 December, 1903, he was placed on the Retired List, at his own request, on 15 June, 1908.[9]
