Rear-Admiral Roderick Bruce Tremayne Miles (8 June, 1887 – ) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Miles was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 July, 1907.[1]

On 13 December, 1913, Miles was appointed to Woolwich as torpedo officer.

Great War

Promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 July, 1915, on 22 December he was appointed to Fearless to serve as torpedo officer for the First Destroyer Flotilla. On 4 April, 1916 he married Marjorie Gertrude Sellar in Surrey and he would be discharged from 1 D.F. 6 days later, to Cyclops. He'd become torpedo officer in Shannon for a little under a month in late 1916 and then in Minotaur for three months.[2]

Post-war

Miles was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1920.[3]

Miles was promoted to the rank of Captain on 31 December, 1927.[4]

Miles was appointed in command of the light cruiser Comus in August, 1929, and while acting as Captain (D) of the Third Destroyer Flotilla, in command of "A" class destroyers Codrington, Acasta, and Active in 1930 through 1932. On 4 April, 1932, Active and Achates collided and Their Lordships informed Miles that "he must be held very seriously to blame for a grave error of judgment."[5]

Miles was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 10 January, 1939 and placed on the Retired List the following day in accordance with the Order in Council of 9 March, 1914.[6]
