Commander (retired) Vernon Hammersley-Heenan, R.N. (25 March, 1888 – 6 May, 1954) was an officer in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Born in Port Elizabeth, South Africa.
Hammersley-Heenan was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 1 October, 1910.[1]
Great War
Hammersley-Heenan married Victoria Wood on 4 August 1915 at the Registry Office in Newcastle.[2]
Hammersley-Heenan was appointed in command of the destroyer Wrestler on 12 February, 1920.[3]
Hammersley-Heenan was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 1 October, 1918.[4]
Hammersley-Heenan was placed on the Retired List at his own request with the rank of Commander on 2 November, 1929.[5]
World War II
Hammersley-Heenan returned to command several destroyers of Great War vintage, serving with the rank of Acting Commander.
