Admiral Hugh Pigot Williams, Royal Navy, Retired (1 September, 1858 – 28 June, 1934) was an officer in the Royal Navy.
Early Life & Career
Williams was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant with seniority of 7 February, 1880.[1]
On 5 July, 1884, he was appointed as a Lieutenant (G) on the Junior Staff at Excellent.[2]
He was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1893.[3]
Captain
Williams was promoted to the rank of Captain on 30 June, 1898.[4]
He was appointed in command of the third class protected cruiser Phoebe on 9 October, 1900,[5] but this was cancelled in favour of command of Sybille.[6]
He was appointed in command of the battleship Hood on 30 January, 1904,[7] followed by a three month stint in command of Ramillies beginning in January 1905.
He was appointed to the Tamar as Commodore, Second Class and as Naval Officer in Charge at Hong Kong on 17 July, 1905.[8]
He served as captain of the battleship Irresistible from 1907 until May 1908.
Flag Rank
After receiving an unusually noncommittal review from Vice-Admiral Charles Carter Drury in February, 1908 ("No special observation."),[9] Williams was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 11 April, 1908, vice Gamble.[10]
From 1910 to 1912 he served as Naval Adviser to the Ottoman government.
Williams was promoted to the rank of Vice-Admiral on 16 May, 1913, vice Cross.[11]
In accordance with the provisions of the Order in Council of 8 December, 1903, Williams was placed on the Retired List on 11 April, 1915.[12] He was advanced to the rank of Admiral on the Retired List on 3 April, 1917.[13]
