Captain (retired) Arthur Kenneth Gibson (19 May, 1889 – 28 January, 1950) was an officer in the Royal Navy with an incredibly hard-to-read Service Record due to image quality.

Life & Career

Gibson was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 1 October 1911.[1]

Gibson was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 1 October, 1919.[2]

Gibson was appointed to Nubian as first lieutenant on 30 July, 1914 where he served under Commander Charles Ewer Cundall.[3] This appointment ended on 15 June, 1915 when Gibson was appointed in command of Crane. Thereafter, he commanded a succession of torpedo craft during the war: Myrmidon from mid-March 1916, T.B. 1 from August, 1916, Acheron from February, 1917 and finally Rattlesnake from December, 1917 through the end of the war.

Post-War

Gibson was appointed in command of the destroyer Plover on 2 December, 1918. In February, 1919 he was appointed to command Medway where he remained until November. A series of courses followed, carrying him into 1924 at which point his service record is largely illegible, though some ship commands are evident.[4]

Placed on the Retired List at his own request with the rank of Captain on 19 May, 1935.[5]

World War II

Gibson was promoted to the rank of Acting Captain on 1 November, 1939. His service in the war appears to have been largely one of being "on the books", though he did serve on a Selection Board. He reverted to the Retired List on 13 March 1946.
