H.M.S. Bideford was one of eight Shoreham Class sloops completed for the Royal Navy.
Service
Bideford was placed under the command of Cdr. Percy Frank Pilkington Wood on 16 October 1931 for trials. Upon their completion, he commissioned her for service. Due at Aden on 6 January, 1932, he was to proceed to Muscat to relieve the sloop Hastings, exchanging ships with her commander, D. S. McGrath. [4]
She was commissioned at Chatham on 15 November, 1932 for service in the Persian Gulf.[5]
Re-commissioned on 17 November 1936.[6]
Re-commissioned at Malta on 12 December, 1938 for service in the Persian Gulf.[7]
